As we observe Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, it’s important to talk about the growing conversation around PCOS — now referred to as Polycystic Metabolic-Ovarian Syndrome to better reflect its strong metabolic and hormonal impact.

PMOS/PCOS is more than irregular periods or ovarian cysts. It is a complex condition linked to insulin resistance, obesity, chronic inflammation, and hormonal imbalance — all of which can increase the risk of endometrial (uterine) cancer over time.

Women with PMOS experience exposure to estrogen without the balancing effect of progesterone. This can cause the lining of the uterus to become thick which increases the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and subsequently cancer.

Early diagnosis, maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and appropriate medical follow-up can significantly reduce these risks. Mirena IUD can also protect your womb from endometrial cancer.

This Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, let’s continue empowering women with knowledge, encouraging early evaluation of abnormal bleeding, irregular periods, and advocating for better reproductive health care for all.
