Breast Cancer Awareness Session | Ministry of Amerindian Affairs

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Shivani Samlall and Dr. Mallika Singh of the Lotus Cancer Foundation hosted an educational and screening session with the staff of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
The session focused on early detection, breast self-examination, and the importance of routine screening in reducing late-stage breast cancer. Participants were also offered clinical breast examinations and guided on when mammograms or breast ultrasounds may be recommended based on personal risk and findings.
Beyond screening, the discussion emphasized the power of supportive community care—reminding us that no woman should face this journey alone. Support from family, friends, colleagues, and the wider community can make a meaningful difference.
This outreach reflects our ongoing commitment to education, empowerment, and equitable access to women’s health services across Guyana.
