Our Background

 

The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc. is a newly established not-for-profit organization led by a team of highly driven professionals committed to eliminating cancers in Guyana. Although recently formed, the organization is founded by seasoned medical and public health experts, including an experienced Obstetrician Gynaecologist who specialize in the detection and treatment of gynaecological cancers. Our team brings a deep understanding of the systemic challenges within Guyana’s cancer care landscape, as well as the drive and technical expertise to implement impactful solutions.

 

Lotus is grounded in the belief that no woman, man or child should die from a preventable cancer. Our mission is to bridge critical service gaps—especially for vulnerable populations—by strengthening prevention, screening, referral, treatment and support services for all cancers.

Goal:

To reduce the burden of cancer in Guyana by increasing prevention, ensuring early and accurate diagnosis, expanding access to quality treatment, and delivering holistic support that improves survival and quality of life for all patients and their families.

 

Objectives:

 

1.Promote Cancer Prevention and Wellness

Promote education and evidence-based prevention, including immunizations and healthy lifestyle support, across all life stages from childhood through menopause and older adulthood.

2.Expand Screening and Early Detection

Strengthen cancer screening and early diagnosis using digital health innovations and integrated referral and follow-up systems to improve outcomes and reduce late diagnosis. 
 

3.Provide Compassionate, Patient-Centered Support

Deliver holistic care through psychosocial counseling, patient and family navigation, and survivorship programs that promote dignity, empowerment, and quality of life.
 

4.Strengthen Health Systems and Service Delivery

Enhance the quality and reach of oncology services through workforce development, infrastructure improvement, and coordination across all levels of the health system.
 

5.Advance Research, Data, and Policy Advocacy

Promote data-driven decision-making and policy advocacy to expand equitable access to essential cancer prevention, treatment, and supportive care services.
