The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, hosted a successful Cancer Awareness and Screening Session for staff members at the Herdmanston Lodge, Georgetown.

The session focused on education and awareness of the three most common cancers affecting Guyanese men and women — Breast, Cervical, and Prostate cancer.

Dr. Shivani Samlall, Founder and Chairperson of The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc., and Dr. Gopie, Urologist at GPHC and member of the Lotus Cancer Initiative. Inc delivered insightful presentations highlighting the importance of prevention, early detection, regular screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Following the presentations, participants benefited from HPV vaccinations, distribution of health vouchers, laboratory testing, and eye checks and clinical breast exams.

The Honorable Minister Gail Teixeira also engaged in a meaningful discussion with Dr. Samlall on ongoing efforts to strengthen cancer prevention and education across Guyana and future collaborations.

The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc. remains committed to promoting awareness, prevention, and access to care—one organization at a time.
