Reconnecting with a Mentor – FIGO 2025, Cape Town

The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc. was proud to be represented at the FIGO 2025 World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, where Dr. Shivani Samlall engaged with global leaders in women’s health and oncology.

During the conference, Dr. Samlall had the pleasure of reconnecting with Dr. John Varallo, Women’s Health Lead at the Global Surgery Foundation and one of her former mentors.

Dr. Varallo is a distinguished global health leader known for his work in strengthening surgical systems and advancing women’s health worldwide. His mentorship and advocacy have inspired countless professionals dedicated to improving access to quality care for women in low- and middle-income countries.

The meeting was both meaningful and motivating, reaffirming a shared vision to expand equitable cancer care and women’s health services in Guyana and beyond.
